Boomslice.  That's me.

How did I become Boomslice?  Funny you should ask...
A friend christened me "Boom Boom Reggie Boom" while noodling around on his guitar one day.  I think that was a skit that he saw on Living Color or something.  I'm not sure why, but it certainly was funny at the time (probably drunk).

Well, Boom Boom eventually turned into Boomie, and Boomie eventually because Boomslice after watching one too many urban movies.  Boomslice is a form of "homeslice", as in "Me 'n my homeslice are going to chill down at the mall today."  www.urbandictionary.com/define…

So that's me.  Boomslice, Boomie, Boom Boom, Boomiefield, Boomie-licious, etc, etc.  :D

How did you choose your name?  Was it given to you? or did you make it up yourself?  If so, why did you choose it?

Photo contests?

1 min read
So I'm cruising around the Photography section of DA and I come across this story about a photo contest at Picture.com where I can win $10,000.
news.deviantart.com/article/10…
"Very interesting," I says to myself.

I follow the links to Picture.com and everything looks great - prizes galore, get your photos published, the whole nine.  "Where are my photos at?"

For some reason, I went back to the DA story and start reading all the comments that deviants have left:

It's a scam...
Don't do it....
They just want to sell you books...

"Bummer."

So my question to all you photo deviants out there is this:
do you know of any LEGIT photo contests out there?  Are there even photo contests here at DA that I'm unaware of?

OK.  Maybe DA3 isn't so bad.  I can see some of the things that they've built into it and it seems like they've taken the time to improve the interaction between deviants.  That's definately a good thing when building an online community.  Plus it's a whole heck of a lot faster, so I say kudos.

On another note, I was speaking with a friend of mine and a question came up:

Would you rather...

A.  end world hunger?

OR

B.  end racism?

Just note that the decision you make would be retroactive through all of time - no one to date would have starved to death, nor would things like slavery have gone down.

Personally, I'd end racism.  I think that all men and women were created equal and that's that.  Besides, ending world hunger would be great, but think about the overcrowding that would occur on the planet.  I just don't think Mother Nature could handle that many people.

What do y'all think?  I'd love to hear your thoughts...

I was away on vacation last week, so I missed the whole release of DA3 to the general public.  Does anyone else out there think that this totally sucks?

Don't get me wrong - things happen a little faster and there are a few things that are really cool (like the GPS stuff), but it kinda pains me to use the devwatch now.  I'm actually considering removing some of the people who post 50 photos a day (you know who you are) because I just can't keep up without thumbnails to look at.

OK - they'll probably have things patched up soon, but this really sucks.  I was just getting used to the quirks of DA2 and now I feel like the rugs been pulled out from under me.

Can anyone else relate?  or an I the only ass struggling with no thumbs in the deviationwatch?

PS - my vacation was a cruise in the Western Carribbean, so I should have a few photos to post in the near future.  Keep an eye out, ya heard?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my last question about spending time on DA.  Apparently, there are some people here who are just casual observers, and some who are power users - you know who you are!

Another questions for you:

What resolution are you running on your monitor right now?

Personally, I'm at 1280x1024.  A smaller size might be a little easier on my eyes, but when I'm photoshopping, I need all the real estate I can get.  You know what I'm sayin'?

The reason I ask is because all of my recent deviations have been a maximum of 800 pixels high or wide.  I figure this will allow all of youse to see the full pic without having to scroll - I hate that.  How can I fully enjoy a photo if I can't take it all in at once?!?  In any case, let me know what you're running and perhaps I'll increase accordingly.
